Promenades Shopping Centre has announced RNLI Bridlington as its partner charity for 2017 after the people of Bridlington were given the power to decide who should get the centre’s fundraising support this year.
More than 170 people put forward the names of 15 different local charities and good causes, which ranged from national charities such as British Red Cross and RSPCA to more local causes.
The centre management team had the tough job of whittling them down and picking an overall winner, but the decision in favour of the lifeboat charity was unanimous.
Maria Kamper, centre manager, said: “We are extremely pleased and excited to announce RLNI Bridlington as our partner charity for 2017.
“We are all really looking forward to starting this new partnership and I am confident our customers will get behind this cause and we hope to raise enough to make a real difference to the charity.”
More than 40 people put the charity’s name forward and Bob Taylor, chairman of fundraising at Bridlington Lifeboat Station, said he was delighted when he received the news.
He said: “We are thrilled that RNLI Bridlington has been selected as The Promenades Shopping Centre’s charity partner and it is even more fantastic that the public were key in the decision making.
“Our volunteer crew depends on donations and fundraising like this to maintain their lifesaving service, but the partnership will also be a great opportunity for us to raise the profile of the local RNLI services and promote staying safe at sea.”
Over the last year, The Promenades raised over £18,762 for charities across the UK.
